Same cornfield, day two. The feast is on until the cobs are gone, then silence returns. I waited just for flight. This swift passโ€”black hood, chestnut cloak, pale billโ€”cut across the soft green and finally gave me the moment I hoped for.

โ€ข ๐—œ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ณ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป: Black head and throat, bright chestnut upperparts, neat white belly/rump, stout bluish bill; short rounded wingsโ€”very tidy in flight.
โ€ข ๐—›๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ฎ๐˜ & ๐——๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐˜: Open fields, grasslands, paddy and millet/corn plots; mainly grass seeds and grain, takes tiny insects occasionally.
โ€ข ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด: Nests in small colonies; ball-shaped grass nests low in reeds or crops; monsoon-linked breeding with both parents feeding chicks.
โ€ข ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ: Widespread across peninsular India, Sri Lanka, and into SE Asia.
โ€ข ๐—Ÿ๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ธ-๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ธ๐—ฒ: Scaly-breasted Munia lacks the black hood and shows scaly underparts; Indian Silverbill is paler with a silvery bill and uniform buff tones.
